Former
World Series winning pitcher becomes newest Advisory Board Member
For Immediate Release:
ROYAL OAK, MI. AAW News/ Nov. 11, 2009 --- As our country more fervently pursues
energy alternatives, the progress of the Adopt-A-Watt™
program just became more visible, as another well-known citizen gets involved.
Milt Wilcox joins among others, actress and activist Linda Gray, perhaps best
known for her role as Sue Ellen on the long-running hit show “Dallas, as the
latest National Adopt-A-Watt™
Advisory Board member.
Having a sports celebrity like Milt Wilcox associated with our project attracts
a wider audience and draws more attention to our cause,” stated Thomas A.
Wither, founder and principal of the National Adopt-A-Watt™ Program (NAAWP). “We
are very excited about Milt’s participation in our program and his potential for
helping advance clean energy, in Major League Sports”.
“Because sponsorships completely pay for new solar lighting systems, I believe
this is an excellent way for Teams to support Major League Baseball’s Team
Greening Initiative”. Stated Wilcox. He goes on to say, “Also, because the
sponsors name and logo are attached to these solar lights, they receive high
profile recognition for supporting the team AND clean energy with more
‘bang-for-the-buck’ then just hanging their name on a sign, inside the park…an
obvious ‘win-win’, for all”.
Wilcox also adds, “I am very pleased to support this
endeavor. Like my fellow Board member
Linda Gray, ‘I believe we must change to truly clean and sustainable sources of
energy’. Because this
initiative will fund and help raise
clean energy awareness at sporting venues, it will generate a chain reaction of
participation which will assist in
About NAAWP
-- Modeled after the successful Adopt-A-Highway acknowledgment program, the
National Adopt-A-Watt™
Program gives sponsors community recognition for funding clean energy,
alternative fuel and energy-efficiency projects.
Financially strapped public agencies serve as Hosts and are the program
beneficiaries.
The program arranges and coordinates all sponsorship, financing, installation
and ongoing maintenance for sponsor-able photo-voltaic displays (SPVD). An SPVD
is either a complete .5 kW solar electric system or a solar lighting system.
SPVDs uniquely save or generate clean energy and offer a new source of revenue
to fund other energy-saving equipment or alternative fuel vehicles and
infrastructure.
Sponsorship of SPVDs is arranged via a virtual auction process at the National
Adopt-A-Watt™
website, www.adopt-a-watt.com. This permits global participation and matches
sponsor needs with optional locations.
In addition to offering individuals, foundations and non-profits an impacting
and visible means of displaying philanthropy; sponsorship presents an exciting,
new, alternative media platform for corporations to benefit the communities they
serve while demonstrating 21st century Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and
generating favorable, 365 day per year, brand awareness.
NAAWP is endorsed by many prominent alternative fuel organizations and has the
support of (41) Clean Cities coalitions in (21) states.

Cortez City Manager, Jay Harrington adds, "The City of Cortez is excited about participating in the Adopt-A-Watt program and is presently exploring other potential locations within the City. Our geographic location provides huge solar opportunities and we hope this is the first of many solar applications for the City of Cortez." "The Airport and City of Cortez are to be commended for foresight and vision of embracing 21st century energy", stated Thomas A. Wither, Founder of the National Adopt-A-Watt(TM) Program.
